The Township Council’s Neighborhood Services Advisory Committee will be offering a special presentation for residents entitled “Empowering Parents—A Guide to Social Media.” This forum will be held on Wednesday, March 1st beginning at 7:30 pm at the Public Safety Building, 91 Union Street (across from Freedom Park)
During this discussion, Officer Patrick Robey of the Medford Police Department will present an overview of popular social media sites and apps that today’s youth and teens are using. He will also share information on current trends in social media and ways to keep children safe while on social media sites. Facebook and Twitter have been replaced by sites such as Instagram and Snap Chat in popularity amongst teens, primarily because parents and adult caretakers are unfamiliar with these sites and how kids are using them.
Officer Robey made this presentation at Taunton Forge School to parents in late January, and the feedback was that it was a great experience and very informative for all in raising awareness of this important topic.
For those residents interested in this presentation who will be unable to make this March 1st event, it will be live video streamed via the Township website (http://www.medfordtownship.com/content/233/243/967/default.aspx) and also archived for viewing at any time via the same link.
