In honor of Veterans Day, Medford VFW #7677 will be on hand at the Main Street Memorials (next to the Medford memorial Community Center) tomorrow morning (11/11) offering a rifle salute at 11:00 am
Also on November 11th at 11:00 a.m. the Pinelands Garden Club will be celebrating Veterans Day at the Blue Star Memorial on Route 70, just west of the super WaWa. Their featured speaker will be Dave Silver, coordinator of Operation Yellow Ribbon of South Jersey. A donation of goods will be presented to Dave at that time to send to our soldiers overseas. Blue Star Memorials are set up by garden clubs throughout the country on designated highways to honor all those who currently serve or have served in in the armed forces.
The significance of the 11/11 at 11 am are related to the major hostilities of World War I that were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. The United States originally observed Armistice Day; it then evolved into the current Veterans Day holiday in 1954.
**Reminder--Township offices will be closed in observance of the holiday
