Atlantic City Electric Ready for Windy Weather Customers encouraged to prepare for the possibility of outages
MAYS LANDING, N.J. (January 22, 2017) – Atlantic City Electric is closely monitoring the weather forecast that calls for heavy rain and strong winds with gusts up to 60 mph along coastal areas that could affect the company’s service territory early Monday morning through Monday evening. The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning through Monday afternoon.
High winds can cause tree limbs to break and come in contact with the electric system causing power outages. Atlantic City Electric will work around the clock to restore any outages that may occur. In addition to approximately 125 internal linemen, Atlantic City Electric has an additional 160 overhead line contractors and tree-trimming personnel as well as crews from its sister utilities Delmarva Power and Pepco available to assist in any restoration effort.
Should Atlantic City Electric ever need extra assistance, the merger with Exelon allows for shared resources from other nearby companies in the Exelon family, including Baltimore Gas & Electric and PECO in Philadelphia.
While Atlantic City Electric is ready for this storm, the company also reminds customers to be prepared for the possibility of outages. We encourage customers to have an emergency kit, including a flashlight, battery-powered clock and radio, extra batteries, non-perishable food, manual can opener, bottled water and a list of important phone numbers.
We ask customers who need power for critical medical equipment to be prepared to relocate to a facility with electricity in case there is a power outage.
Customers are asked to report any outages and to stay away from any downed wires. To report outages and/or downed wires, call 1-800-833-7476, follow the prompts, and ask for a call back to confirm that power has been restored. Outages also may be reported through our mobile app or at atlanticcityelectric.com/storm.
